Increasing UV radiation on the earth is likely the reason why we are experiencing a sudden spike in skin illnesses most of which start showing in the face. Luckily, there are remedies, a combination of skin fillers that helps to completely eradicate a large majority of these facial blemishes.

What Are Facial Fillers

Beauty and youth are defined by well-accentuated borders of a smooth skin and full lips but ageing among other things as briefly described above tend to result in wrinkles, changes in contours and loss of skin tone. Traditionally, cosmetic surgery was the only known remedy for these imperfections but now we have a variety of non-surgical skin care techniques that can be used to obtain similar results with no downtime. Fillers, and especially dermal fillers have become a popular preference among these non-surgical skin beauty techniques.

There are a plentiful of dermal fillers currently in the market and at MINTS Medical Spa, Dr. Imran will discuss with you in detail the differences between these fillers before you go for treatment.

Fillers are generally products with a proven formula injected into parts of the body to improve the contour of that part of the body. While dermal fillers are quite common, they are not the only known fillers. We also have nasal fillers to go for if you are not content with the shape of your nose.

Who Needs Fillers

Like many skin beautification treatments, fillers can be applied to anyone who feels they have skin or facial imperfections they need to get rid of.

However, it is not recommended for people with a highly sensitive skin. Nevertheless, if you must get a filler, you will be provided with an aggressive treatment for the hypersensitive reaction. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also avoid being injected with fillers.

Do Fillers Really Work?

When done properly, skin fillers should work although the rate at which optimal results will start showing depends on the severity of your skin blemishes and the specific fillers used.

Most fillers are made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring acid in the body. These fillers enhance the body contours. Hyaluronic acid based fillers may have a firm or soft consistency depending on their manufacturer. Some common brands of hyaluronic acid-based fillers include Juvederm and Belletero.

There are fillers which contain calcium hydroxyapatite, an inert substance which doesn’t react with your body chemically and hence does not disintegrate. The compound forms a matrix around which collagen is deposited resulting in long-term results associated with these fillers. Typical Calcium Hydroxyapatite containing fillers include Radiesse.

In other fillers such as those with Poly L Lactic Acid, collagen formation is stimulated by the body. Unlike other fillers, these do not exhibit spontaneous results although when results show, they can last for as long as 5 years. Sculptra is a known Poly L Lactic acid containing fillers.

In some cases, fat may also be used as a filler. Fat fillers are especially useful where large parts such as buttocks, love handles and breasts needing contouring.
