Microdermabrasion involves the removal of the uneven outer layer of the skin, utilizing a minimally rough instrument to softly exfoliate.
This treatment is used to get rid of any skin discoloration, light scarring, stretch marks and sun damage.
The benefits of the treatment include:
This procedure results in more youthful complexion, as it thickens the collagen. Collagen is a protein abundant in your skin when you are younger and helps the skin look smooth. The production of collagen reduces as we get older, which results in a looser skin.
Microdermabrasion utilizes a diamond-tipped wand or microparticles to get rid of the outer layer of the skin known as epidermis and enables the growth of fresh, new skin.
There are two kinds of procedures when it comes to microdermabrasion.
One procedure involves the exfoliation of skin using a stream of tiny crystals coming out of a hand-held device.
The tiny crystals are simultaneously sucked back, through an attached vacuum, into the machine together with the exfoliated dead skin.
A newer approach to the treatment is using a diamond-tip wand. The skin is exfoliated by gently moving this wand across the skin.
The treatment takes about ½ hour and you may experience mild itching after the procedure because your dead skin cells are removed.
You may also experience a vibration similar to a massage, during the treatment due to the suction of exfoliated dead skin by the vacuum.
The results of the microdermabrasion generally last long, it depends on how damaged your skin was and the number of times the procedure was done. A lot of people get two treatments done in a month but as the condition of the skin improves, only a single treatment in a month is required for maintenance.
If the microdermabrasion treatment causes any discomfort, it generally does not last long. Any swelling or redness experience takes only a few hours to diminish. After the treatment, you can expect dryness and flakiness in your skin for a few days.
Other risks of microdermabrasion include:
Microdermabrasion is a gentle procedure and there is no recovery period for the procedure.
